Sustainability
Our approach to sustainability means we hold ourselves accountable for our planet and the people we work alongside, as well as the products we create. We strive to work with factories that treat people right, and we’re committed to fixing problems in our supply chain when they occur. In addition to our focus on ethical manufacturing, we go the extra mile to ensure our entire operation is carbon neutral.
"We are responsible, as part of our duty, to play our part in the chain and more importantly, our part on our planet."
What Does Carbon Neutral Mean?
In 2019, we became the first British accessories brand to become Certified Carbon Neutral Business. Carbon Neutral Britain™ is a non-profit organisation that assists brands in measuring their carbon footprint and becoming 100% carbon neutral. As a Carbon Neutral certified brand, we measure, reduce, and offset the entire carbon footprint of our operation.
The first step is to establish a solid estimate of our carbon emissions across every aspect of our business. Experts in Calculation and Verification to the ISO 14064 count our annual emissions using boundaries based on the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. This includes all of Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions, and the majority of Scope 3 emissions, as shown below.
These figures are measured in Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO²e)
Step 2: Make Plans To ReduceAfter measuring our emissions, we work with Carbon Neutral Britain™ to help reducing our emissions in all aspects of our business, from the source of our supply chain to daily operations.
This has been done by various methods including streamlining logistics and investing in recyclable or carbon-neutral material. You can learn more about our reduction plans below.
Step 3: We Invest To OffsetSome emissions cannot be removed at source, inevitably. We offset all remaining footprint we have been unable to eliminate through Carbon Neutral Britain™ verified and vetted offsetting projects. All the projects are certified to the highest standards through the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER) and Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes.
Carbon Neutral Britain™ also spends up to 10% of their budget on carbon offsetting and sustainable tree planting projects in Britain, ensuring impact is made here at home too.
We receive detailed information on the exact projects they have funded, which can also be seen from their Extensive Carbon Offset Portfolio. Some recent examples include the Amazon Rainforest Restoration Project in Brazil, Reforestation Projects in Nicaragua and Australia, Rajasthan Solar Power Project in India, Rice Husk Power Project in Cambodia.
While reducing footprint and offsetting 100% of our emissions is a good first step, we want to continue to do more. We are working to actively reduce our emissions internally and throughout our supply chain. You can learn more about our reduction plans below.
OUR SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
"We are on a mission to make lasting designs, create lasting products—AND HAVE A LASTING IMPACT."
We are committed to quality. Our watches and accessories are built to last. If they break and we're able to do something about it, we will fix it. Our goal is to keep your Dinney Clarkson watch on your wrist and out of the landfill.
- Use Biodegradable Materials Wherever We CanDecreasing our use of single-use plastic and materials is crucial to reducing our impact. We are working to use recycled materials where we can in our production process and packaging. We incorporated carbon neutral packaging for deliveries, which will be available as a free option from 2024.
- Decrease Shipping Emissions By Dispatching Locally When We CanShipping is the biggest contributor to our carbon footprint. In order to cut down, we’re working to fulfil as many orders as possible locally.
In 2023, our first Asia fulfilment centre was set up in Hong Kong, which processes all our orders placed in the Asia-Pacific region, such as Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Mainland China.
We are working on decentralising fulfilment centres globally, and into urban areas. This aims to reduce delivery time and cuts down transport-related emissions by 50%.
- Offset All Remaining Emissions We Cannot ReduceWe are honest about our efforts, and we know that unfortunately not all emissions can be removed at source. We pledge to continue offsetting the emissions we are unable to eliminate.
- Seek To Further Understand Our Impact And How We Can ImproveAs we grow, we are committed to continue making our products ethically and sustainably, minimising harm to our planet. That means we are constantly learning and seeking to understand how we can reduce our impact in all areas of our business.
